Job Title:  Independent Living (IL) Specialist

 

Position Reports to:  Reports directly to the Coordinator of Services. Under general supervision by, Office Manager & CAL Management Team.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the development and implementation of the IL Program, to include one-on-one and group curriculum and IL trainings, workshops and events. Works to enhance the quality of the lives of individuals with disabilities. This is a one Full Time job located in the Center for Accessible Living Inc.’s Covington Office; One Full time and one part time position located in CAL’s Bowling Green Office.  Full benefits available for full time staff after 90 days.

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for overall direction, implementation, and day-to-day activities of the program.
  2. Assist consumers in developing an Independent Living Plan or waiver and complete activities necessary for Center intake process.
  3. Follow up with consumers to assure that the requested services are maintained.
  4. Refer consumers who need other IL or supportive services internally or externally to the appropriate entity, assist consumers to increase their awareness of community resources.
  5. Collaborate jointly with resources and community programs such as rehabilitation services, mental health facilities, transportation, government offices, etc, to achieve consumer Independent Living goals.
  6. Teach self-advocacy skills to consumers to assist in developing problem solving skills.
  7. Participate in the Center’s systems advocacy activities.
  8. Provide direct service to consumers with complaints regarding discrimination issues.
  9. Provide Independent living skills training to consumers.
  10. Provide information and referral services.
  11. Attend required trainings and other community meetings as necessary.
  12. Complete necessary and required paperwork and case notes, maintain electronic and paper files and documentation according to Center procedures.
  13. Assist in development of goals as needed for individuals and or families requiring assistance; including, when appropriate, interviewing and evaluating consumers for services, formulate plans,  goals and support consumers toward successful completion, and/or assist consumers in obtaining services.
  14. Facilitate and assist in developing activities and independent living skills trainings for Center consumers.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Report progress and problems to the Coordinator of Services.
  2. Adhere to CAL philosophy, mission statement and policies.
  3. Maintain consumer confidentiality.
  4. Respect the rights, values and beliefs of consumers.
  5. Maintain scheduled appointments.
  6. Participate in the outreach activities in accordance with the Center’s outreach plan.
  7. Serve as Center liaison to community groups as assigned by Center CAL Leadership Team.
  8. Participate in resource development activities of the Center.
  9. All other duties as assigned by Center management team.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree, and/or minimum of three years life experience with a disability preferred.
  2. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multi-tasking abilities.
  3. Excellent personal, written, and verbal skills are required.
  4. Strong computer skills, including experience and familiarity with MS Office, specifically in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  5. Ability to work with diverse populations, including people with disabilities, in a professional manner.
  6. Ability to maintain effective relationships with consumers and co-workers and the community.
  7. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  8. Able to arrange dependable transportation in the area.
  9. Good problem solving skills, especially in a fast paced environment.
  10. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and genuine concern for others.

Desirable:

  1. Knowledge of the Independent Living Philosophy.
  2. Knowledge of disabilities and their characteristics.
  3. Bilingual/bicultural helpful.
  4. Individuals who have experience as consumers of disability-related services encouraged to apply.

This position is Grant funded, renewable on an annual basis.

 

 

 

Job Title:  Office Manager/IL Specialist 

 

Position Reports to:   Reports directly to the Coordinator of Services. Under general supervision by CAL Management Team.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the coordination and day- to- day operations of the CIL.  Supervising and directing staff.  Responsible for assisting in managing the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the CIL. Works to enhance the quality of the lives of individuals with disabilities. This is a Full Time job located in the Center for Accessible Living Inc.’s Bowling Green or Covington Office.  One position per location available. Full benefits available after 90 days.

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain supplies and balances petty cash.
  2. Prepares and processes outgoing mail to include: accurate weighing; coding; sorting; affixing postage; properly addressing; and preparing certified/overnight/return receipt mail.
  3. Opens delivered mail and sorts into appropriate distribution.
  4. Ensures postage system is operational and keeps supervisor and fiscal informed of postage needs.
  5. Accumulate data and prepare accurate reports as required
  6. Refer consumers who need other IL or supportive services internally or externally to the appropriate entity, assist consumers to increase their awareness of community resources.
  7. Teach self-advocacy skills to consumers to assist in developing problem solving skills.
